BigCommerce - Coupon Codes

Coupon Codes can now be created in BigCommerce and they will map to existing Promotion/Discount records in AcctVantage. If the Promotion/Discount does not already exist in AV, a new record will be created.

In BigCommerce, select Marketing > Coupon Codes > Create a Coupon Code.

AcctVantage currently supports two types of Coupon Codes:

  1. Dollar Amount off the order total
  2. Percentage off each item in the order

During Sales Order import, the system looks for the BigCommerce Coupon Code and attempts to match it to an existing Promotion/Discount in AV.

  • If a match is found, AV will use the existing Promotion/Discount on the imported Order.
  • If a match is not found, AV will create a new Promotion/Discount and use it on the imported Order.

When matching Coupon Codes to existing Promotions in AV, the value on the Promotion in AV will be used. The value on the Coupon Code from BigCommerce will be ignored.

Best practice would be to verify that the terms of the Coupon Code are in agreement between both systems. Otherwise, you will run the risk of the Sales Orders being out of agreement in both systems.

System Setup

Navigate to Administration > System Setup > Web Integrations. Double-click to open the existing BigCommerce integration and go to the GL tab.

Enter the Default Discount GL Code. This is the GL Account that will be assigned to any new Coupon Codes when they're importing into AV.

Consult your accountant if you don't know what GL Account to use here.

1. Dollar amount off the order total

Here is an example of a Coupon Code using a Dollar Amount. The following fields are required in order for the Coupon Code to be imported into AV.

  • Coupon Code
  • Coupon Name
  • Discount Type = Dollar amount off the order total
  • Discount Amount
  • Enabled = True

Here is the same dollar-based Coupon Code after being imported to AcctVantage.

2. Percentage off each item in the order

Here is an example of a Coupon Code using a Percentage. The following fields are required in order for the Coupon Code to be imported into AV.

  • Coupon Code
  • Coupon Name
  • Discount Type = Percentage off each item in the order
  • Discount Amount
  • Enabled = True

Even though BigCommerce defines this type of coupon as a "percentage off each item in the order", AcctVantage will apply the percentage to the Order Total.
