AcctVantage Database and other related files

The AcctVantage database, along with several related files, are saved in a folder on the server hardware. The location of the data folder is selected when the system is initially implemented.

The data folder can be anywhere on the same drive as the AV server application. We don't recommend to keep the data on a separate drive. We do recommend to keep the folder stored in one of the directories below.

macOS: Macintosh HD/Applications/AcctVantage ERP Server/<your_company_data>

Windows OS: C:\AcctVantage ERP Server\<your_company_data>

The Documents folder (either OS) is also a common place to store the data.

Data Security

All of these files and folders should be treated as you would any mission-critical info within your company. Access to the server hardware should be limited to administrator or IT roles.

  • Data:
    • *.4DD (the actual database file)
    • *.ExternalData (contains text files stored externally from the database)
    • Documents (documents that have been attached to records in AV)
    • Pictures (pictures that have been attached to records in AV)
  • Supporting files & folders:
    • Logs (contains backup history and some error logs)
    • Settings (contains 4D structure settings and backup settings)
    • temporary files
    • *.akf (AcctVantage key file)
    • *.4DIndx (used internally by 4D to speed up searches and sorting)
    • *.Match (used internally by 4D to match table numbers)
