Managing AV Server Disk Space

If you still have any questions about which files should or should not be deleted after reading this article, please do not hesitate to submit a support ticket before deleting anything!

Which files are safe to delete?

There are some files and folders that are not critical to the daily operation of AcctVantage. Some of these can be handy to keep in certain scenarios, but in most cases they can be safely deleted.

Data Maintenance files

When the Data Maintenance routine has been completed, the system moves a copy of the data file into a "Replaced Files" folder that is stored within the same directory as the 4DD data file.

➡️ After the AcctVantage Server app has been restarted following the Data Maintenance process, it is safe to delete any "Replaced Files" folders.

AV Software Archive folder

When a new version of the AcctVantage Server app is installed, the system moves the old version into an AV Software Archive folder.

➡️ After the new version of the AcctVantage Server app has been launched, it is safe to delete the AV Software Archive folder.

Old AcctVantage (4BK) Backup files

As per our recommended backup settings, the system will auto-delete the oldest backup file when a new one is created.

➡️ However, you can delete any 4BK backup files that you determine are no longer needed. See THIS ARTICLE to find where your backup files are stored.

Which files should not be deleted?

Under no circumstances do we recommend to delete any of these files or folders.

AcctVantage (4DD) Data and related files

DO NOT DELETE any of these files or folders from the folder where the AcctVantage (4DD) data file is located on the server:

  • 4DD file (i.e. data file)
  • AKF file (i.e. key file)
  • Documents
  • Pictures
  • Logs
  • Settings
  • Temporary Files

* The 4DIndx and Match files are less critical but in general we do not recommend to delete them. If there is a problem with these files, you should run the Data Maintenance routine.
