AcctVantage ERP Sandbox Setup

Sandbox refers to running AcctVantage in a stand-alone test environment separate from your production system where real data entry occurs.

The single user application may be installed along with a copy of your company data file to create a sandbox. This would allow you to test new processes, train new staff or take a snapshot of the data with you on the road.

There is not a merge function; any data entry done in a sandbox copy of the data file will not be present in your production database.

1. Run the installer for the AcctVantage Server application

On the sandbox computer, download and install the AcctVantage Server application. Along with the server app, a "single user" version of AcctVantage will be installed. This is the program you'll use to access the sandbox.

Create a folder named Sandbox Data within the AcctVantage ERP Server folder.

On macOS, the single user app will be located in the folder Macintosh HD/Applications/AcctVantage ERP Server/Single User

On Windows OS, the single user app will be located in the folder C:\AcctVantage ERP Server\Single User

2. Make a copy of the AcctVantage backup file

See HERE for info on locating the 4BK backup files. Copy the most recent 4BK file to the Sandbox Data folder you created previously.

3. Restore the 4BK backup file

See HERE for instructions on restoring a backup file. Restore the backup file to the Sandbox Data folder.

4. Launch AcctVantage Single User

macOS

On the sandbox computer, go to the Applications folder and locate the AcctVantage ERP Server folder. Inside this folder you will see a Single User folder. Double-click to launch the AcctVantage ERP single user application.

5. Selecting a Data File

When you receive the prompt below, click on Open and then navigate to the sandbox data file you restored to the Sandbox Data folder. The file will have the extension 4DD.

If you see some progress meters after selecting the data file, this is normal.

6. Log in

You can log in with your regular user name and password.

From here you can begin testing, training, etc. without affecting live production data.
