AcctVantage Upgrade Paths

Depending on which version of AcctVantage you are currently using, there will be a different path for upgrading to the current version.

The upgrade paths described below cover the vast majority of scenarios. There are some outlier scenarios that are not covered here. These scenarios would primarily include issues with old, outdated hardware where the AV Server and data file need to be migrated to newer hardware in order to upgrade. Please contact AV support if your scenario is not found below.

If you're currently using AV 2019 or 2020 ...

Requirements:

  • Installers:
    • Installer for AV 2020.3.7 (if currently using an older version)
    • Installer for the current version of AV 2023 Server
    • Installer for the AV 2023 Client
  • Licenses:
    • Licenses for 4D v18
    • AcctVantage keyfile for AV 2023
  • System Requirements:
    • Verify hardware and OS compatibility

Upgrade Path:

  1. Before shutting down the AV 2019 (or 2020) Server, complete the standard data maintenance routine.
  2. Shut down the AV 2019 (or 2020) Server.
  3. Upgrade the AV Server using the installer for AV 2020.3.7 Server (skip to #6 if you're already using 2020.3.7).
  4. Start AV Server 2020.3.7 and connect to the data file.
  5. Shut down the AV Server.
  6. Upgrade the AV Server using the installer for the most recent version of AV 2023.
  7. Start AV Server 2023 and connect to the data file.
    • Enter the 4D v18 licenses if prompted.
    • Install the AV 2023 key file.
  8. Upgrade all AV Client machines using the installer for the AV 2023 Client.
  9. Start the AV Clients and connect to the AV Server.

If you're currently using AV 2021 ...

Requirements:

  • Installers:
    • Installer for the current version of AV 2023 Server
    • Installer for the AV 2023 Client
  • Licenses:
    • AcctVantage keyfile for AV 2023
  • System Requirements:
    • Verify hardware and OS compatibility

Upgrade Path:

  1. Before shutting down the AV 2021 Server, complete the standard data maintenance routine.
  2. Shut down the AV 2021 Server.
  3. Upgrade the AV Server using the installer for the most recent version of AV 2023.
  4. Start AV Server 2023 and connect to the data file.
    • Install the AV 2023 key file.
  5. Upgrade all AV Client machines using the installer for the AV 2023 Client.
  6. Start the AV Clients and connect to the AV Server.

If you're currently using AV 2023 ...

Requirements:

  • Installers:
    • Installer for the current version of AV 2023 Server
  • Licenses:
    • no additional licensing is necessary
  • System Requirements:
    • Verify hardware and OS compatibility
  1. Before shutting down the AV 2023 Server, complete the standard data maintenance routine.
  2. Shut down the AV 2023 Server.
  3. Upgrade the AV Server using the installer for the most recent version of AV 2023.
  4. Start AV Server 2023 and connect to the data file.
  5. Start the AV Clients and connect to the AV Server
