AcctVantage Upgrade Paths

Depending on which version of AcctVantage you are currently using, there will be a different path for upgrading to AV 2025.

The upgrade paths described below cover the vast majority of scenarios. There are some outlier scenarios that are not covered here. These scenarios would primarily include issues with old, outdated hardware where the AV Server and data file need to be migrated to newer hardware in order to upgrade. Please contact AV support if your scenario is not found below.

AcctVantage 2025 introduces a new feature for exporting data to a MySQL database. The upgrade to this version will take longer than usual as the system indexes the data to support this feature. We highly recommend you begin the upgrade at the end of the business day and allow to run after hours to minimize disruption. The actual time required for this process is dependent on your database size and server hardware.

If you're currently using AV 2019 or 2020 ...

Requirements:

  • Installers:
    • Installer for AV 2020.3.7 Server (if currently using an older version)
    • Installer for AV 2023.6.15 Server
    • Installer for AV 2025 Server
    • Installer for the AV 2025 Client
  • Licenses:
    • Licenses for 4D v20
    • AcctVantage keyfile for AV 2025
  • System Requirements:
    • Verify hardware and OS compatibility

Upgrade Path:

  1. Before shutting down the AV 2019 (or 2020) Server, complete the standard data maintenance routine.
  2. Shut down the AV 2019/2020 Server.
  3. Run the installer for AV 2020.3.7 (skip to #6 if you're already using 2020.3.7).
  4. Start AV 2020 Single User app, connect to the data file and log in as Administrator.
  5. Shut down the Single User app.
  6. Run the installer for AV 2023.6.15.
  7. Start AV 2023 Single User app, connect to the data file and log in as Administrator.
  8. Shut down the Single User app.
  9. Run the installer for the most recent version of AV 2025 Server.
  10. Start AV 2025 Server app and connect to the data file.
    • Enter the 4D v20 licenses if prompted.
    • Install the AV 2025 key file.
  11. Run the installer for the AV 2025 Client on all user workstations.
  12. Start each AV Client and connect to the AV Server.

If you're currently using AV 2021 ...

Requirements:

  • Installers:
    • Installer for AV 2023.6.15 Server
    • Installer for AV 2025 Server
    • Installer for the AV 2025 Client
  • Licenses:
    • Licenses for 4D v20
    • AcctVantage keyfile for AV 2025
  • System Requirements:
    • Verify hardware and OS compatibility

Upgrade Path:

  1. Before shutting down the AV 2021 Server, complete the standard data maintenance routine.
  2. Shut down the AV 2021 Server.
  3. Run the installer for AV 2023.6.15.
  4. Start AV 2023 Single User app, connect to the data file and log in as Administrator.
  5. Shut down the Single User app.
  6. Run the installer for the most recent version of AV 2025 Server.
  7. Start AV 2025 Server app and connect to the data file.
    • Enter the 4D v20 licenses if prompted.
    • Install the AV 2025 key file.
  8. Run the installer for the AV 2025 Client on all user workstations.
  9. Start each AV Client and connect to the AV Server.

If you're currently using AV 2023 ...

Requirements:

  • Installers:
    • Installer for AV 2023.6.15 Server (only if you're using an earlier version)
    • Installer for AV 2025 Server
    • Installer for the AV 2025 Client
  • Licenses:
    • Licenses for 4D v20
    • AcctVantage keyfile for AV 2025
  • System Requirements:
    • Verify hardware and OS compatibility
  1. Before shutting down the AV 2023 Server, complete the standard data maintenance routine.
  2. Shut down the AV 2023 Server.
  3. Run the installer for AV 2023.6.15 (skip to #6 if you're already using 2023.6.15).
  4. Start AV 2023 Single User app, connect to the data file and log in as Administrator.
  5. Shut down the Single User app.
  6. Run the installer for the most recent version of AV 2025 Server.
  7. Start AV 2025 Server app and connect to the data file.
    • Enter the 4D v20 licenses if prompted.
    • Install the AV 2025 key file.
  8. Run the installer for the AV 2025 Client on all user workstations.
  9. Start each AV Client and connect to the AV Server.
