Auto-build an Assembly
The Auto-build setting enables the system to build an Assembly on-the-fly during Sales Order entry.
If there is insufficient stock to fulfill the line item, the system will automatically build the assembly without creating a Work Order. The recipe components will be drawn from stock while the Assembly is added to stock and immediately reserved for the Sales Order.
This feature is not to be confused with the Auto Work Order feature. The Auto Work Order feature requires the user to create the Work Order via the Sales Order Action Menu.
The Auto-build feature detailed here bypasses the Work Order and creates the Assembly on-the-fly.
Requirements for Auto-build assemblies:
- Auto Assembly Build setting must be enabled in System Configuration.
- Auto-build setting must be enabled on the assembly product record.
- BOM component quantity must be Available either in the Sales Order line item warehouse or in the Default Component warehouse (if this has been assigned).
- If there is insufficient quantity of the BOM components, the user will be given an alert message stating how many units can be built.
- The system will not create sub-assemblies via auto-build.
- The assembly must not be serialized.
Enable Auto Assembly Build in System Configuration
- Navigate to Administration ➤ System Configuration.
- Select Sales Document from the drop-down list.
- Find the Auto Assembly Build setting and double-click the value to change it to True.
- Click OK to save.
Enable the Auto-build setting on the Product record
- Open the Product record of the Assembly.
- On the Product Info tab, check the Auto-build setting.
- Click OK to save.
(Optional) Enable a default warehouse for BOM components
If this warehouse is assigned, Auto-build assemblies will be built only when there is enough available component inventory in the Default Component warehouse.
During Sales Order entry, the system will automatically create a Warehouse Transfer to move the components from the Default Component warehouse to the Sales Order line item warehouse. The components will then be drawn out of stock while the assembly will be built automatically (i.e. without a Work Order) and reserved for the Sales Order.
If this warehouse is not assigned, Auto-build assemblies will be built only when there is enough available component inventory in the Sales Order line item warehouse.
- Open the Product record of the BOM Component(s).
- On the Inventory tab, enter the Auto-Assembly Build - Default Warehouse (aka Default Component Warehouse).
- Click OK to save.
